In the 2020 season of The Indian Premier League the Mumbai Indians emerged victorious once again. While there are many aspects that can influence a team’s performance up until the finals, how much money is spent on players is a factor considered crucial for success.

But this is not always true: As far as spending on new players goes, the Kolkata Knight Riders spent most in the 2020 auction, followed by Kings XI Punjab, last year’s biggest spenders. The teams spent $3.7 million and $3.5 million on new players at the end of 2019, according to website CricTracker. The Mumbai Indians spent “only” $1.5 million and still emerged as the most successful team.
