As the window finally shut yesterday, they also took transfer deadline day spending to a record £210 million, despite many of the highest-profile moves never happening. Romelu Lukaku made the most expensive Premier League move of the summer, switching from Everton to Manchester United for £75 million. Local rivals Manchester City had the highest transfer spending at £215 million, ahead of Chelsea’s £192 million.
