Football’s Big Nights Score TouchDown for TV Viewers

While football fans move on from the Super Bowl two weeks ago, the National Football League is certainly celebrating their TV viewership numbers. The NFL successfully attracted TV viewers to their primetime game days and major league games.

According to the Katz Media Group analysis of Nielsen Media data, overall primetime viewership for Monday Night Football on ESPN increased by 9% year-over-year. For Sunday night football on NBC, total viewers increased by 6 percent, while Thursday night football on Fox saw a moderate 3 percent bump in viewership.

The study found that viewership for the division championships increased by 28 percent year-over-year. The NFC Championship in 2018 brought in about 42 million viewers, while the 2019 AFC Championship scored big, bringing in over 54 million TV viewers.
