Since 2008, we have seen the creation of a bulge bracket, that is standing astride domestic football – Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham. If ever a sport reflected a certain disconnect with its audience, it is surely football.
